the 2nd Annual Cummins Marathon.  We appreciate your interest and enthusiasm.

Our Cummins Falls Marathon Facebook address is  https://www.facebook.com/CumminsFallsMarathon and Friends of Cummins Falls State Park address is https://www.facebook.com/pages/Friends-of-Cummins-Falls-State-Park/153152911495069.  A narrative of other information is presented below:

The 2nd Annual Cummins Marathon is happening February 22, 2014 and is more than a marathon………We offer a marathon, half marathon, 10k, 5k, a Progressive Marathon, entertainment, food, nature tour and programs.  All races start in Cummins Falls State Park.  The marathon and half marathon begin at 8:00am, the 5k and 8k begin at 10am and the progressive marathon begins at 10:15am.   Registration is available via Cummins Marathon Facebook page.

Our marathon follows the State Scenic Blackman Fork River to SR 135 and follows the State Scenic Roaring River to Morrison Creek then along Morrison Creek up Chaffin Hill.  More than 15 miles of river make the Cummins Marathon one of the most scenic marathon courses in the state and perhaps the nation.   The Cummins Marathon course is certified and runners are eligible to qualify for the Boston Marathon.

The Progressive Marathon is a one mile walk or run through Cummins Falls State Park and is free to the public.  The Progressive Marathon started out as a method of inspiring our your area youth to get up, get out and get active.  Our park rangers encourage area elementary aged students to walk and/or run one mile each day prior to race day.  Participants log their progress and may complete their marathon or a portion of their marathon on race day.

Even if you are not a runner, there is something for everyone during the 2nd annual Cummins Marathon.  You may experience live music or partake in a tasty meal provided by Applebee’s.  Other actives include wildlife programs such as mammals, birds of prey and reptiles.  Or you may enjoy a hike through Cummins Falls State Park with State Naturalist Randy Hedgepath.

The Cummins Marathon is sponsored by the Friends of Cummins Falls State Park with support from Cummins Falls State Park and Tennessee State Parks.  The Friends of Cummins Falls State Park is a 501(c)3 organization.  Monies raised from the marathon will be used in part to help finance the purchase of land, build overlooks in the park and to treat Hemlocks trees from the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid.  Tax free contributions may be made via our Facebook page “Friends of Cummins Falls State Park https://www.facebook.com/pages/Friends-of-Cummins-Falls-State-Park/153152911495069” membership forms are available via Facebook.

Hope to see you February 22nd at Cummins Falls State Park.
