WHEN: September 9‐10 2011, 6:30 PM Friday‐5:00 PM Saturday
WHERE: Boxwell Scout Reservation, Pfeffer Boat Harbor
COST: $45.00 per person. Includes meals Saturday, boat rental use, Cubworld cabin camping, and materials
WHAT; Learn the skills needed to conduct a weekend sailing activity at Boxwell’s new and improved Pfeffer Boat Harbor using the new American 14.6 and Aqua Finn Sailboats. There will be 3 hours of classroom time and 8 ½ hours of hands on Sailboat training and sailing.
WHO: Adult Leader’s who want to reserve sailboats for a weekend Unit sailing adventure at Boxwell.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
- Reinforce all 9 points of Safety afloat with special emphasis on Qualified Supervision and appropriate Skill Proficiency for leaders to conduct Unit Small Boat Sailing activities
- Learn how to Check‐out, properly rig the sailboats, clean‐up, and storage requirements for Boxwell sailboats, lines and sails.
- Three hours of hands on skill proficiency training to include: Basic sailing skills, capsize drill, crewman overboard, points of sail, Boxwell boat harbor sailing area, knots, and small boat sailing merit badge requirements
- Verification/review of required Sailing leader Certifications for Boxwell sailboat use: CPR Certificate, (MyScouting e‐learning web) Safe Swim Defense, Safety Afloat, and Weather Hazards Training Certificates
- Certify Unit leaders for use of sailboats at Boxwell Reservation
STUDENT PREREQUISITES:
1. Complete the MyScouting on‐line e‐learning for Safety Afloat, Safe Swim Defense, and Weather Hazards.
2. Study Small Boat Sailing Merit Badge Book Requirements
3. Have completed a BSA Swimmer’s Test in the last 12 months
4. BSA Medical Form Parts A and B
